IntroductionA copy of the textbook ‘Understanding Structural Analysis’ which includes fully functional versions of QSE 2D and 3D software is included in the cost of the course and will be issued prior to the course. The software is to be installed on your laptop which would be useful, but not essential, on the course.Course Content• Classical Methods: what you really need to understand about the stiffness and flexibility methods.• Design Office Methods: the only useful method that can be used every day in the design office is Moment Distribution • The approximate analysis of framed structures: developing a check prior to the Engineering Model and as a check against the computer results • Non-orthogonal slabs: a simple way of applying the Yield-Line method as a check prior to the Engineering Model and a check against the computer results • Advanced methods • 2nd Order, P-Delta and when to use it • The risks of Finite Element Analysis • Special Design Problems • Tall structures and wind bracing • Case studies Speaker/s• DR DAVID BROHN, PhD, CEng, FIStructE, in the early 1970's, devised a test for an understanding of structural behaviour. The control group for the test was the graduate entry to the Arup Partnership. This course was devised for the Partnership and revealed that even engineers of many years experience are less than secure in applying an understanding of structural behaviour. In the mid 1980's he set up the software company QSE to apply this concept to the design of a highly intuitive interface for structural analysis software. He has continued to provide the training course for many of the world's leading firms of structural designers. Book Now |
