IntroductionThis course explains the main features and changes contained in Eurocode 2 and the accompanying National Annex for UK specific conditions. It covers the Eurocode system, basis of design, structural analysis, material properties, design for bending, shear, compression, deflection and crack control. Delegates have the opportunity to design simple structural elements via worked examples and workshops.Course Content• Introduction to Eurocode system and EC2• Basis of structural design, principles of limit state design, partial factors and structural analysis • Materials and durability requirements • Design for ultimate limit states • Tying systems • Design for serviceability limit states • Additional rules for precast concrete and lightweight concrete • Structural fire design - general principles • Structural fire design - design procedures • General discussion Speaker/s• Professor R S Narayanan, FREng, has been involved with the development of EC2. Professor Narayanan is the Chairman of the CEN subcommittee responsible for Eurocodes on concrete structures.• Robin Whittle, MA(Cantab), CEng, MICE, has been involved with the development of UK and European Codes for the use of structural concrete.
