IntroductionThis course provides a solid introduction in the design of steel framed buildings to avoid disproportionate collapse. The guidance provided is in accordance with the recently amended Building Regulations and the Approved Document A (2004 edition) which means that disproportionate Collapse must be considered in the design of all buildings. The course content includes an introduction to the concepts of disproportionate collapse, structural integrity and robustness, an explanation of al the regulatory and BS 5950 requirements, strategies for compliance and workshops which enable delegates to apply some of the theory learnt during the course.Course Content• Concepts: Disproportionate collapse, structural integrity, robustness, load paths and bracing• History of the robustness regulations • Building regulations Part A (2004 edition): Approved Document A requirements; Building Classification • Requirements of BS 5950-1:2000: Strategies for satisfying requirements • Proposed changes to BS5950-1 • Class 3 Buildings: Hazards; Risk assessments • Robustness and light gauge steel constructions • Bracing systems: Horizontal and vertical; Moment frames Speaker/s• ANDREW WAY, MEng, CEng, MICE, is a Principal Engineer at The Steel Construction Institute. He is a Chartered Engineer with over ten years of experience in structural engineering research. During his time at the SCI Andrew has worked on a wide range of projects and has authored numerous publications subjects include; structural connection design, steel frame robustness, acoustic detailing, wind-moment frames, design to BS 5950-1 and precast concrete floors in steel framed buildings.Book Now |
