IntroductionThis CPD course will explain the main features and changes contained in Eurocode 2 and the accompanying National Annex for UK specific conditions. The course will cover a brief introduction to the Eurocode system, the basis of design, structural analysis, material properties, design for bending with and without axial loads, shear, punching shear, torsion, anchorage and detailing. The main approaches to structural fire design will also be explained.Course Content• Day 1- Basis of design and load combinations - Materials - concrete and reinforcement - Structural analysis - Durability and fire - car park slab and column exercise - Beam design and beam worked example - Detailing - detailing quiz and anchorage example - Punching shear - Other parts such as pre-cast/plain concrete • Day 2 - Column design - Column worked example - Strut and tie methods - Pile cap exercise - Serviceability limit state - Slab/serviceability workshop - Sources of support / design aids Speaker/s• MR ROBIN WHITTLE, MA(Cantab), CEng, MICE, has been involved with the development of UK ad European Codes for the use of structural concrete. Mr Whittle, Arup consultant, is part of the Project Team which drafted EC2.• DR SARAH WILLIAMSON, CENG, MISTRUCTE, is a senior engineer with Atkins and previously a lecturer in structural engineering (concrete design) at the University of Birmingham with research and teaching expertise in the field of structural concrete.
