Introduction

This workshop is designed to help delegates to take notes and write minutes of meetings quicker and more effectively.

The success of a meeting is determined by the quality of the minute writing and the action plan. This workshop will help delegates to understand the role and responsibilities of the minute taker in relation to effective meetings. They will learn techniques to enable them to recognise and understand the important points and be able to capture key points and decisions without wasting words or time.

The workshop will be interactive with role plays and exercises to improve minutes and decision making.

• The importance of the minute writing role in effective meetings
• Understanding the reader
• Meeting styles and conventions
• Conventions of agenda and minute writing
• Responsibilities of the chair and the minute writer
• Recording decisions and providing action plans
• Listening and questioning techniques to enhance concentration and accuracy
• Techniques for filtering and summarising large amounts of information
• The importance of language in minute writing
• Layout and numbering and useful words for minutes
• Role plays and meeting practice exercises
• Check lists and common problems explored

Speaker/s

• Dr David Skinner has completed over 28 years in a variety of posts in education and training in both operational and policy roles.

David has been an independant freelance trainer, specialising in business communication skills and management development. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and holds a diploma in Education Management.

He is passionate about the vital importance of written and oral communication skills in business, and the need for managers to develop these skills.

He is also a keen exponent of accelerated learning methods, to make his training workshops relevant, memorable and fun.
