Introduction

People are the lifeblood of any organisation. It is initially important for both the stability and growth of the organisation that they are managed effectively.

Most people want to give their best and to be their best at work. It should be rewarding, inspiring, challenging and even fun! Sometimes it becomes very complicated for people to give their best at work, because the organisational structure and 'politics' is not conducive and this can result in poor morale and low motivation. Effective delegation complete with constructive feedback are key tools which the manager can use motivate the team. The appraisal of staff is a fundamental part of the manager's supervisor's role. Appraise and feedback system not merely help the organisation review individual performance, but also allow staff to identify and manage their own departmental needs, properly constructed appraisal interviews provide a formal opportunity to acknowledge achievement and help to promote a better motivated and loyal workforce.

Course Content

• understand your own delegation style and how to adapt this in light of the 'skill/will' matrix
• agree performance targets, and personal objectives with individuals
• prepare personal training and development plans with your team
• use effective questioning skills to demonstrate active listening in the context of staff appraisal and feedback
• manage performance issues and improve the effectiveness for individual
• define motivation
• realise how your own motivation relates to the level of motivation within your team
• recognise the ciaching opportunities to develop staff
